What is Lupron 3.75 mg Injection?
Lupron (also called leuprolide acetate) is a medication that is injected to reduce the amount of hormones (progesterone and estrogen) that are produced by your body. It blocks the gonadotropic releasing hormone signals to the pituitary gland. It creates a temporary menopausal condition, which allows for treatment of many conditions, including endometriosis, ovulation disorders, and uterine fibroids. Lupron therapy is often indicated for women who have unpredictable periods, and allows for a better ovulation cycle. Studies suggest that pregnancy rates where Lupron depot 3.75 mg injection uses were employed were higher than with stand alone gonadotropins. For women who have endometriosis, but who would like to become pregnant, Lupron has shown to allow enough healing to allow pregnancy once the treatment has stopped. Are there side effects for Lupron 3.75 Injection?
The side effects while taking Lupron depot 3.75 is very similar to what you would experience at menopause. Hot flashes are common, as are mood change, vaginal dryness and headaches. The initial doses usually cause some slight breast tenderness and fluid retention. They go away. Rest assured, once the medication is discontinued, menstruation returns. There are no known adverse effects on children or pregnancy as a result of the use of this medication.
If symptoms are uncomfortable, you can try your favorite pain reliever such as Tylenol or Advil (or whatever your physician recommends). If hot flashes are persistent and do not go away with time, contact your doctor who may be able to prescribe something to lessen their effect.
How Lupron is Administered
Once your doctor writes a prescription and you have it filled, you should receive a “kit” that contains you medication dosages. It must be administered via intramuscular injection, in other words, a shot. Often the vial is not filled to the top, but that is common and there is nothing wrong with the product. A common regimen is a two week protocol. Some require 20 unites, decreasing to 10, while other regimens recommend 10 units decreasing to five when stimulation has occurred. If your doctor is prescribing Lupron as a “trigger” medication you may only receive the one dose. This is because your doctor wants to mature eggs for retrieval for IVF. It may be used in place of Pregnyl, HCG, Novarel or Ovidrel.
